OFF-BROADWAY

GAURDIANS (2006)

Playwright: Peter Morris
Director: Jason Moore
Duration: April 11 - May 25, 2006
Venue: The Culture Project
Character: English Boy
Plot: An "American Girl" joins the army, the only ticket out of her dead-end hometown, and finds first love in a sadistic officer with a photo fetish. And at a London tabloid not unlike the Mirror, a reporter finds the ticket to his dream job as a broadsheet columnist through a submissive soldier he meets in a Dantean S&M club.
Character Description: A fiercely intelligent yet smugly smarmy journalist. His life's ambition is to be an editor at London's Guardian newspaper where he can "write the first draft of history." Currently he works for the tabloids and views himself as gutter press with principals, only a step away from being a pornographer.

SMALL TRAGEDY (2004)

Playwright: Craig Lucas
Director: Mark Wing-Davey
Duration: March 11 - 28, 2004
Venue: Playwrights Horizons
Character: Hakija
Plot: A director pulls a group of strangers together to put on his version of Oedipus. As they struggle through the rehearsals and performances, connections form, revelations are spilled, alliances and professional successes are made, tested, and broken.
Character Description: An economics student cast as Oedipus, who turns out to be both a better actor than his theatrical-wannabe colleagues, and a walking trigger for emotional disruptions. A self-declared Bosnian refugee and "Muslim atheist," he gives varying, often contradictory accounts of his past experiences, which his more straightforward American colleagues accept at face value.

THE FOURTH SISTER (2002)

Playwright: Janusz Glowacki
Director: Lisa Peterson
Duration: November 21 - December 8, 2002
Venue: Vineyard Theatre
Character: Kostia/Lonia
Plot: Three sisters live in a cramped apartment with their drunken father and a sullen houseboy, Stiopa. In a modern day Moscow, they hunger for love and happiness amidst the uncertainty of a new world order. When an American filmmaker comes to town, the sisters see a chance to change their fates, and someday, just maybe get to Hollywood.
Character Description: Taken by the mafia he is the young gangster son of the sisters neighbor. He drinks alot and has a mounting debt to the mafia. He becomes Tania's lover seducing her with a life of money and glamour. Before the mafia he was sober and would spend all his time reading in the library.

THE CREDEAUX CANVAS (2001)

Playwright: Keith Bunin
Director: Michael Mayer
Duration: June 5 - 17, 2001
Venue: Playwrights Horizons
Character: Winston
Plot: Jamie, disinherited by his now deceased father - a gallery owner, and Winston, an inner-directed art student, share an East Village Flat. When, budding cabaret singer, Amelia admires Winston's current painting—not an original but a copy, for a school assignment, of a favorite painting, an obscure fauvist masterpiece, by the short-lived and largely unknown Jean-Paul Credeaux. Winston's gift for copying and his emotional identification with the pathetic wastrel Credeaux gives Jamie the idea for a scam: He will market, to one of his late father's less canny clients, a fake Credeaux by Winston—one of the Parisian painter's lost nudes, to be modeled by Amelia.
Character Description: He's an art student/library checkout clerk living on a diet of ramen noodles and water. He may be a genius but is also compulsive, a near nervous wreck. Driven by talent's adrenaline, he can only see the path he's set himself on. He may appear to fraternize with others, but he's really registering no one but himself. His ambition is his tragic flaw.
